Reflections Across Time: Seminole Portraits
Sunday, November 5, 2-3 p.m.
Annette B. Fromm presents a compelling story of how images and perceptions of Native People, especially the Florida Seminole, were manipulated through the 20th century. Rather than a people whose presence was erased, however, how they flourished and have been represented by artists from their own community toward the end of the last century and into the 21st will be showcased. The work of renowned 19th and 20th century Euro-American artists, such as George Catlin and Edward Curtis and 2011 Florida Artist Hall of Fame honoree James Hutchinson, as well as work by noted 20th century Florida Seminole artists, including Noah Billie will illustrate this significant change. This lecture is based upon an exhibit that was jointly developed by the Frost Art Museum-FIU and The Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum.
